Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th generation model is a fine 14 inch business laptop with extreme durability, innovative security features, colourful display panel, a wonderful new set of keyboard and a long lasting battery life.

Let's know it in a deeper way.

PRICE

Cost of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th generation powered by Intel Core i7-8565U processor ( 16 GB RAM / 512 GB SSD / 14 inch (35.56 cm) display ) is Rs. 1,04,827. .

DESIGN

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 carbon'sc design department has much noteworthy stuffs to speak about and one of those stuffs is its carbon fiber lid. But what is the reason behind this ? What actually carbon fiber does is strengthens the exterior part of the device and adds rigidity to it which makes ThinkPad Carbon an ultra-portable device and carry anywhere for any business tours or something else. Point to be noted that carbon fiber offers rough surface to the lid which makes it a zone of scratches and may damage the outer beauty of your lappy. Here you need to pay attention to avoid any scratches and all.

Chassis of the ThinkPad X1 has been made up of carbon and magnesium stuffs. Don't you feel that addition of these elements would make your laptop a bit heavier one. But, don't forget that carbon and magnesium are two of the lightest metals in the world.

And ThinkPad brings a surprise by weighing just 2.1 pounds (0.952 kg) and 0.6 inches thick. How light it is and anyone can get to the point now why it has been titled as "an ultra-portable laptop". Carry smoothly without any physical efforts.

No matter how much fertile a field is, without plants and flowers it cannot define its beauty and somehow Lenovo has understood the concept similar to this and engraved its lid part with X1 logo and ThinkPad written on its top.

Is something left to write for the design department of the device.

Yes. Something special and interesting.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon offers 180 degree turnover to your display screen, that’s a noteworthy one.

You can hold the laptop like a book and do your work as usual if you are desirous to use it in 180 degree flat mode.

DISPLAY

Wouldn't it be a nice touch to your day when you switch on your laptop and your display screen enriches your eyes with colorful hues . Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon has done its best to manage a jovial atmosphere for the users by presenting display panel in different modes, i.e., 1080p display panel and 4k display panel. A perfect 14 inch (35.56 cm) business laptop is no less than a dream.

1080p display panel is an amazing one. It produces clear and colorful display, accurate information of screen activities with a great vividness. But 4k display panel overtakes 1080p panel in all these aspects.

4k stands with a greater colorful screen than 1080p and produces more lifelike stuffs on the screen. Although good in quality but 4k panel disappoints people in terms of unwanted reflections from the screen when you work with your device outside your home. What reflection does is it put a glare on your eyes that somehow irritates your eye. Because 4k panel is very much smooth and shiny, it will interrupt your work on a daily basis if you work outside. If you don't want any sort of interruptions in your work, go for 1080p panel. Then it will be best for you.

KEYBOARD

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is packed with an excellent chiclet-type keyboard, offers easy key presses and a good amount of key travel. Keys are curve - shaped which offers a nice feel to touch and beautifies the external look of keyboard.

You can reach to the end of your work quickly and productively if your working materials are fast and productive enough. In a laptop, touchpad is the most usable part . Now, the part of your laptop you use the most, if it starts working slowly then you could guess the repercussion of your entire day work.

But nothing to worry about.

ThinkPad's touchpad won't give a bad start to your day. 3.9 * 2.2 inch touchpad, coated with some soft material, offers a pleasant touch and the best part of it is it's very sharp in giving response to your finger swipes and the credit goes to Windows precision drivers which is fitted in the device.

What does Windows precision drivers do ??

It features three finger swipes, i.e., you can make a control on your touchpad by using your three fingers, though, till now, various know only about two finger control. Further, pinch-to-zoom feature enables you to magnify your screen wherever you need to do just with a pinch on your touchpad.

Touchpad is not bare at all. It has been unified with 3 buttons ,i.e., left button, centre button and right button. Left and right does its work as usually but what the centre button does will be described by me in the next paragraph.

Finally yet importantly, there is one red coloured button between G and H keys known as trackpoint. Trackpoint is just a replica of a mouse , i.e., it does the work of a mouse. What you need to do is place your finger over the trackpoint and move it sideways ( either left or right ) to move the cursor on the screen accordingly.

Now the role of that centre button of touchpad comes. For scrolling up and down or horizontally on your screen with your trackpoint, firstly , you need to press that centre button on the touchpad and then you move the trackpoint to the direction you want to scroll. Suppose you want to scroll up on your screen, then press that centre button first and then tilt the trackpoint forward . That's what you need to do.

SECURITY

In terms of security, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon has created a perfect base for both the sides, i.e., offline and online attacks. Offline attack means harm from physical environment. You may go to a place with your laptop, despite the fact, the ambience does not stand favourable for you, for example, the temperature might be extremely high or you may fall under the trap of a severe earthquake whose vibrations can weaken or damage your device. But, 7th generation X1 Carbon has passed 12 MIL-STD tests that certifies the tolerance power of the device and can sustain even at high temperatures, severe vibrations of earthquake or in polar-regions. All it does is determines the overall physical strength of the device.

Carbon X1 supports dTPM encryption and Intel vPro technology which you may not get in Intel Core i5-8250U model , but , however, i7-8565U guarantees it’s availability . Fortunately , ThinkPad Carbon X1 helps the crowd to login to their device using match-in-sensor fingerprint technology . Match-in-sensor fingerprint reader assures security of all the bio-metric information of an user and prevents foreign accessibility.

PERFORMANCE AND STORAGE

Powered by 7th generation Core i7 8565-U processor, ThinkPad X1 Carbon delivers performance at a top notch level . In this model, you will get 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB SSD along with vPro technology settled in the device.

How can anything on this earth prevent it from delivering a worth speaking performance?

What can't a 16 GB RAM do ?

From intelligent power consumption to better storage capacity, everything will be taken care by RAM. Even it improves the gaming capabilities of your device, despite the fact, graphics of ThinkPad X1 Carbon has minimized its gaming strength because of Integrated Intel UHD graphics, not discrete one which I will discuss in a depth in the latter section of this blog.

512 GB SSD is an another musketeer that takes ThinkPad X1 Carbon to a better edge. SSD is much more efficient than HDD and reads and writes data at a much swifter rate. Even a GOOD SSD manages a BETTER power usage for the BEST performance of a device and 512 GB does that job. SSD also minimizes the downloading applications time and loads faster.

AUDIO

Quality of Audio in ThinkPad X1 Carbon is an appreciating one. Packed with Dolby Atmos four speakers, X1 Carbon produces clear sound and holds a strength to cover the entire room with its sound. However, any song that contains heavy sound might not be that clear and capable to cover your entire room with its bass but still manageable.

PORTS AND SLOTS.

Though the laptop is thin but has a good arrangement of ports and slots that facilitates connectivity. Both sides of the device have been fitted with different slots.

On its left hand side :-

1. 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports

2. 1 Ethernet dock connector

3. 1 USB 3.1 Type - A port

4. 1 HDMI 1.4 input

5. 1 headphone/mic combo jack

On its right hand side :-

1. 1 USB 3.1 Type - A port

2. 1 Kensington Lock

BATTERY

In ThinkPad X1 Carbon, what defines it's battery strength is the type of display panel it is fitted with. Previously said that ThinkPad X1 Carbon's display comes in two different modes, i.e., 1080p panel and 4k panel. 4k panel gives more vibrant display screen than 1080p panel .

As 4k display panel produces more colorful hues on the screen, it consumes more power, and, as a result, it consumes more energy of the battery due to which the battery charge lasts for a couple of hours. In comparison to it, display panel with 1080p mode makes the battery lasts for a longer time.
